Browse new and used air curtain burners for sale from Merris, Air Burners Inc, and other manufacturers. An air curtain burner uses a high-velocity wall of air to burn clean wood waste and vegetative debris at high temperatures while containing smoke and particulate. These machines are used for land clearing, forestry, disaster debris removal, and landfill diversion across North America. Types of Air Curtain Burners

Above-ground units (FireBox style) are self-contained, refractory-lined steel containers with the air curtain system built in. The most common configuration for land clearing, forestry, and disaster debris work. Load material from the top, ignite, and the air curtain contains smoke while maintaining burn temperatures above 1,400 degrees F.

Trench burners mount the air curtain manifold over an excavated pit. They handle oversized material — full-length logs, root balls, and large stumps — that will not fit in a box-style unit. The T-300 from Air Burners Inc is one of the most common trench models on the used market.

Portable and towable units (BurnBoss) are compact, trailer-mounted burners built for smaller jobs and frequent moves. The BurnBoss from Air Burners Inc is purpose-built for contractors, municipalities, and utility crews who burn debris at multiple locations without heavy transport.

Regulations & Permitting

Air curtain burners are regulated differently than open burning. In most states, an approved air curtain destructor is exempt from open burning restrictions under EPA guidelines — but you still need a permit or notification from your state environmental agency or local fire authority before operating. Requirements vary by state and municipality. Check with your local air quality district before purchasing to confirm permitting requirements for your location.

What to Check Before You Buy

Start with the refractory lining — the panels absorb extreme heat cycle after cycle. Inspect for cracking, spalling, and deterioration. Refractory replacement is one of the most expensive repairs on any air curtain burner.

Check the air manifold and fan system. Look for warping, corrosion, and damage to the manifold nozzles. Inspect the fan for bearing condition and blade wear. On portable units, check the trailer frame, axles, tires, and hitch.

For mechanical clearing without burning, see land clearing mulchers.
