Browse MSW shredders for sale from Komptech, Lindner, HAAS, Vecoplan, UNTHA, and other manufacturers. An MSW shredder is built to process municipal solid waste, mixed commercial waste, and other unpredictable waste streams found at transfer stations, material recovery facilities, and landfills. GrinderCrusherScreen has been helping operators find the right waste processing equipment since 1973. Browse our inventory below or call 770-433-2670 for pricing and availability.

Why Choose an MSW Shredder?

Municipal solid waste is one of the most difficult materials to shred. The feed stock is unpredictable: bags, textiles, plastics, metals, organics, and contaminants all mixed together. An MSW shredder is engineered with reinforced shafts, heavy-duty bearings, and overload protection systems designed to handle this kind of abuse without frequent shutdowns.

MSW shredders are the preferred choice for:

  • Transfer stations: pre-processing waste to reduce volume before hauling to a landfill or processing facility
  • Material recovery facilities (MRFs): primary size reduction ahead of sorting lines, screens, and optical separators
  • Landfills: processing incoming waste to improve compaction density and extend site life
  • Waste-to-energy plants: preparing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to meet burner feed specifications
  • Commercial and industrial waste processors: handling bulky mixed waste from commercial accounts

Brands We Commonly See

The MSW shredder market is dominated by European manufacturers with long track records in waste processing:

  • Komptech: known for the Crambo and Terminator series. Dual-shaft slow speed shredders with a strong reputation for handling mixed waste and high contamination loads
  • Lindner: Austrian manufacturer producing single-shaft and dual-shaft shredders for MSW, C&D, and industrial waste applications
  • HAAS: heavy-duty shredders designed for the waste and recycling industry, commonly seen at transfer stations and MRFs
  • Vecoplan: specializes in single-shaft shredders for MSW, RDF production, and industrial waste processing
  • UNTHA: Austrian manufacturer known for slow speed, high-torque shredders used in waste-to-energy and MSW applications

What to Check on an MSW Shredder Before You Buy

MSW shredders run in some of the harshest conditions in the waste industry. Start with the cutting system: inspect every tooth, cutter, and shaft for wear, chipping, and damage from tramp metal. MSW operations frequently encounter metal contaminants that cause impact damage to the cutting chamber.

Check the overload protection system. Most MSW shredders have reversing functions or automatic shutoff systems that activate when the machine encounters an unshredable object. Make sure these safety systems are functional and have not been bypassed.

Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks and check fluid condition. MSW shredders rely on hydraulics for the feed ram, cutting chamber, and discharge system. Any hydraulic weakness shows up as slow cycle times or inconsistent performance.

Finally, evaluate the hopper, feed table, and discharge conveyor. MSW operations generate heavy wear on these components from constant loading and abrasive material flow.

We help coordinate inspections so buyers can evaluate a machine before committing. Call 770-433-2670 and our team can walk you through what to look for.

Related Equipment

For clean wood streams separated from the MSW stream, a dedicated wood shredder offers better throughput and lower wear costs. Pre-sort waste with a picking station before shredding to remove contaminants and recover recyclables.
